New Yamaha Ray Z launched priced Rs. 48,555

Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. has announced the launch of its second scooter named as Yamaha Ray Z in the Indian market. The launch of this product took place at one of the most beautiful and Youthful place of India ie. Goa on this Friday. Yamaha Ray Z will be the successor for company’s first scooter Yamaha Ray, which was designed specifically to target the women of India. And now it looks like a good news for the die-hard male fans of Yamaha as company has launched this product especially targeting the male audiences.

Yamaha has given a new dose of style to the Yamaha Ray Z which makes it more attractive and blenders an overall manly looks. In terms of power, this new Yamaha Ray Z scooter is powered by the same 4-stroke as we saw in their previous launch,which is an air-cooled, 113 cc engine that develops a maximum power output of 7 bhp, along with a highest torque figure of 8.1 Nm. Dealing with it’s fuel efficiency specifications, the engine powering Yamaha Ray Z scooter delivers an impressive mileage figure of of 53 kmpl (ARAI certified). Eying on towards it’s body and overall look and design, the Ray Z features a smoked-finish visor, an aluminum rear wing-shaped tandem rider grab-bars, a new instrument panel and carbon fibre patterned seat cover material, racing strips are also being used to give it a sporty and racy appeal. The blunt steel wheels and the telescopic suspension have also been painted in black. The other technical upgrades include V-belt automatic transmission system and under bone frame, along with telescopic front and unit swing rear suspension systems.

Hiroyuki Yanagi, president and CEO, Yamaha Motor Company, Japan also unveiled Yamaha’s new brand slogan ‘Revs your Heart’ on the occasion. Explaining the new Yamaha brand slogan, Yanagi said, “Empowered by a passion for innovation, we create exceptional value and experiences that enrich the lives of our customers.”

From the sources, we came to know that Yamaha has in fact sold 70,000 scooters since the launch of the Ray, which accounts for 16 percent of the market share. Those are some impressive numbers considering the scooter was built solely for a female audience, which prior to the entry of the Ray was a rather undernourished segment. And this could be the main reason behind the launch of it’s new extended version.

Roy Kurian, vice president, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd said the Ray had bagged seven awards since launch in September 2012 and had helped Yamaha gain a growth of 22% in the scooter segment despite the industry registering negative growth in the segment. He said the company expected to sell 5,000 units monthly of the Ray Z, in addition to 10,000 units of the Ray.

The new scooter is called ‘Ray Z’ carries a retail price of Rs. 48,555 (ex-showroom Delhi) and will cater to male buyers in country. It has been pitched against Honda Dio, TVS Wego, Suzuki Swish and Mahindra Duro models in the two-wheeler segment of Indian auto market.
