Korando SUV coming to India by Mahindra-Ssangyong

Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the largest utility car maker in India is all set to launch it’s new entrant in SUV segment as,”Kornado” very soon at the Indian shores. Its well known that Mahindra has acquired the most prominent South Korean utility car manufacturer SSsanYong sometimes back, now it seems like company aiming to mark profitable footprint in the Indian market.

From the Sources, we came to know Mahindra’s Korando will be a 5-seater SUV dubbed with 2.0-litre diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz which claims to deliver tremendous ouptut and produces 175 BHP and 360 Nm of torque. Under the hood, It may have a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission on option as well as a front-wheel drive or a permanent 4-wheel drive system. It is expected, Mahindra Kornado will boast up with some exciting pre-loaded features including cruise control, climate control, steering controls and touch screen navigation system. However, it seems like the Korando will be more of a soft roader built to gratify the requirements of an urban commuter and thereby, makes good sense for the Indian market. In terms of Safety measures, Kornado will be offered with Anti-Breaking System, EBD and 6 standard airbags. However, not much information has been disclosed yet.

Mentioning above about the acquisition of Mahindra over SsangYong, We also heard that Mahindra India few days backs declared that, it has stamped on a definitive deal to take over 70 per cent share in the Korean SUV makers. Indian automobile giant M & M paid about Rs 2105 crore for the same. Pawan Goenka continued and said that, the company is waiting for the creditors approval over the agreement. As per the deal, some amount will be paid by the end of January and the money will be utilized to pay Ssangyong creditors. He later added that, the company is in its final stage of taking over the company. But still the acquisition will take two months. Mahindra is confident that by March, the deal will get over.

Chief Executive Officer of M&M’s auto sector, Pravin Shah he was quoted as saying, “We are working on the products. We studied market for both Korando and Rexton and decided that Rexton has a place in Indian market at present so that was given the first priority.” He later added, “We have not shelved our plan to launch Korando in India. We are just looking for the right opportunity.”

With such a price tag and specifications pertained it will surely give a tough call to Chevrolet Captiva, Skoda Yeti, and Renault Koleos. It is expected, Korando will be launched in a couple of months with an expected price tag of Rs. 15 to 20 lakhs. It will be manufactured at the Chakan plant near Pune alongside the Rexton. So, wait for the launch for all the tech-specifications.
