My red Royal Enfield thunder bird - pictures showoff
« on: October 01, 2012, 07:03:00 PM »
Here I am sharing pictures of my toy, my bike Maroon / dark red Royal Enfield Thunderbird. I will try to add more pictures, currently attaching following.

You can see I have Studds Downtown open face modular helmet, a perfect companion for this bike. I have not done any modification in bike other than removal of backrest, everything else is intact as original.

More pics will come soon..

Yes it is a first generation TB. It uses CDI based ignition system. And the other prominant feature is the short bottle silencer. The speedo console have attractive lights for neutral, turn indicator and dipper. No gas shocks. And this is the only RE to have RE logo in sticker.

Its an AVL designed engine and has three compartments: gearbox, clutch case, engine sump. Three different oils.
Todays engines are Unit Construction Engines(UCE) having one common oil.

What exactly AVL is ?

AVL is an Austrian Company which designs diesel engines for truck manufacturers. Our own Royal Enfield approached them in 1998 to design an engine for further production. The RE factory people themselves got bored by following the same engine design since 1950s.

So from 2000 onwards they started manufacturing engines based on AVL's design. This gave better fuel efficiency and power. Then again in 2007 RE merged all the compartments namely clutch case, gear box and engine crank case and called it an UCE engine, which uses common oil for clutch, gear and engine.
