The first way that polymers are used to create materials with different properties has to do with density. A more dense polymer will create a sturdier material. This is a result of variations on branching within the molecule. The more branched a molecule is, the more spaced out its stacking will be and the less dense it will be. Lower density equals less strength, and the converse is true for high-density materials. The other way that they differ is in orientation. The way a film is stretched when being cast or blown affects the way molecules orient themselves. By stretched a film in a certain way, greater strength can be achieved, especially in a specific direction.
